31. Performance of functions in the absence of office holder
(1)In the event of the incapacity or absence of the Vice-Chancellor, the functions of the Vice-Chancellor shall be performed by a Deputy Vice-Chancellor.(2)In the event of the incapacity or absence of the Vice-Chancellor and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Council shall appoint a suitable person to perform the duties of the incapacitated or absent Vice-Chancellor or Deputy Vice-Chancellor.(3)In the event of incapacity of any other member of staff, the Vice-Chancellor shall, in consultation with the Council, appoint a suitably qualified person to perform the duties of the incapacitated or absent member for a specified period.(4)For the purposes of this section—(a)"absence" means absence from Kenya; and(b)"incapacity" means the inability for any reason to perform the functions of the office held.
